R&B
singer with a rare voice

Back home after successful performance gigs in Melbourne is the leading singer Maxi Rosairo happy with the thought that Sri Lankan musicians are well received in Australia. Maxi was invited to perform at a grand New Year's Eve Ball at the Camberwell Centre organised by the Colombo Cricket Club in Melbourne.

The band in attendance was Cross Connection led by the Sri Lankan drummer Verna McLeod and comprises Sri Lankan musicians like Lyndon Boustead - bass, Howard Williams - guitar with an Australian keyboardist and female singer. This was Maxi's first New Year's Eve in Melbourne although he has made seven performing trips to Australia. Having got that information from him we posed some personal questions.

Birthday : April 11
Fav colour : White. It's puri ty....it's lovely.

Trendy outfits : I like trendy outfits. Designer clothes yes, when I can afford it because it means good quality.

Fav music: R&B - the whole Motown world. People like Stevie Wonder and MarvinGaye.

Hair do's: I'm still with my pony tail. I cut it short about a year ago but started to grow it again.

Fav song of the 80's and 90's: I've sung numerous songs as a performer, I can't pick out a particular song.

How much of a party guy are you: I'm not a party guy but I like an evening of good music, good friends and good conversation.

How do you reject advances from girls: I have never rejected it! But I can cope with it discreetly!! Are you superstitious: No. Because in my opinion there is a simple explanation in this world for everything that happens.

Do you still have your childhood toys: I came from a poor family and we never had toys-my brothers and my sisters. As such we learnt values in life which has stood us in good stead.

What's your pet hate: Hypocrisy in human beings.

Which product would you like to most endorse: A product that would be a boon to the environment - an anti pollution product.

What makes you happy in life: Music makes me happy. Also good company, kindness and love. How many rude thoughts do you have in a day: None at all. As a singer if your PR is not 100% - then you can't be a successful singer.

When you are not singing what keeps you awake at night: My computer. I e-mail or down load MP3 files.

Where would you like to be most now: In a place by the sea where the weather is fine throughout the year. What other profession would you like to be in: A captain of a luxury passenger ship or a pilot of a plane.

What would you do if you ruled the world: I will ensure that human beings get a good deal. Not the raw deals you get all the time.

Your fav. food and do you cook? I have no food favourites. My wife says I'm the best cook in the world. From frying an egg to making biriyani.

If you could change anything about yourself what would it be: I'd like to remain as I am and do things differently.

Fav cartoon character: Flintstones

Fav rap star: I have no favourites. I respect African-Americans doing rap. It means something to them. When people who are not do rap, the lingo sounds alien and has no soul.

If Elvis were still alive, what would he be doing: He would still be singing. Rock and roll is still going strong and he would have found his audience, he would still be a star.

What do you think life would be in the year 3000: Mars would have been colonised by then and we would have more places to sing at!!!
