PM confident peace process would bring results Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe expressed confidence that the peace process would bring about results. "How can a war which raged for 20 years be settled in one year," he asked, in a question and answer interview with three journalists, on television last night. Premier Wickremesinghe scoffed at criticism at the peace process, levelled by the opposition, saying that it had come a long way. He admitted that many offenses were committed by the LTTE, including child recruitment. But, these matters are being taken up by the international community, and the United Nations, he said. Answering questions, Premier Wickremesinghe disagreed that the LTTE had strengthened themselves with every peace move they made. They had strengthened themselves through war. But, now the people want peace. The socio-economic benefits of the war is that farming has begun. hospitals are being built, roads are opened, and the people are beginning to have a better life. In spite of criticism from the opposition, more people are beginning to like the peace process, Premier Wickremesinghe said. |
