Dale expands involvement in Sri Lanka Dale of Norway is expanding its partnership and investments in Sri Lanka with the Norwegian Agency for Development Corporation (NORAD). The goal of Norwegian assistance to Sri Lanka is to promote reconciliation and lay the foundation for a durable peace. Development cooperation focuses on projects that promote human rights and democratic development, relieve distress and contribute to economic development. Assistance will also be provided for implementing the strategy for private sector development in the South. Dale Research and Development Services (Pvt) Ltd (Dale R&D), the latest venture of the company, offers opportunities for youth to cultivate their talents. Dale Craft Knit, (DCK) the sister company, has trained around 5000 women in knitting over the 22 years it has been present in the country. The 17 knitting centres in Colombo, Kalutara, Balapitiya, Kandy, Nuwara-Eliya and Padukka have helped rural women by making them skilled in a craft, which can make them employable. NORAD has funded another project DCK initiated in building multi-purpose production sites in areas where it is present. These would be used for knitting while serving as community halls for the villages. The first such site, situated off Padukka, will be inaugurated soon. The Design Centre of Dale R&D is now complete and looking forward to promoting design for export in Sri Lanka. |
