Latest concept in Lanka's hotel industry

The Heritage Group takes over colonial hotels

The Heritage Asia (Pvt) Ltd representing The Heritage Lanka (UK) Ltd has, by arrangement with the Bank of Ceylon, taken charge of the Ceybank Rest in Nuwara-Eliya, which is in the process of being converted into a fully-fledged Heritage hotel. The name of the property has also been changed from Ceybank Rest to The Heritage Nuwara-Eliya.

A significant number among discerning tourists prefer spending their holiday in a heritage property, where old world charm and traditions blend with modern aids to comfortable living and the service is friendly and personalised.

In the global Heritage Hotel movement, grand residences, palaces, ancient buildings etc have been converted into Heritage Hotels reflecting their individual history and traditions and has been a great success. The Heritage Group of Sri Lanka was formed to promote this movement.

The Heritage Hotel concept though not very popular in Sri Lanka is a unique institution in the global hospitality industry. In particular, it caters to the needs of the highly discrimination professional, independent business person or holiday maker. The aim of the Heritage Group of Sri Lanka is to cater to this unique market segment - the discerning clientele with high expectations who usually patronize the heritage properties around the world. On being asked about their future expansion plan Managing Director/CEO Saman Rajapakse of Heritage Group indicated that they were looking at three properties at the moment - one in Colombo and other two in Bandarawela and Kandy. According to Rajapakse, theirs is a very cautious approach.

He, however added that their vision was to be the "Best in Class" of the heritage properties in Asia.
