Probe into missing soldier : Discrepancies in military regulations revealed Preliminary investigations conducted by the Sri Lanka Military police about missing soldier A.P. Jayawickrama have revealed several discrepancies that violate both financial and military regulations. Jayawickrama who was assigned escort duties to Major General Nanda allawaarachchi of the Sri Lanka Army went missing on August 26,2002, but his disappearance had not been reported to the relevant authorities until September 17. Military police investigations have also revealed that missing soldier's ration had been drawn for nearly 2 months after the date of his disappearance along with one month salary. The investigations were conducted on a complaint made to the Investigation Unit of the military police by A. Karunasena, the father of the missing soldier, in October 2002 . He had stated about an anonymous call he received claiming that his son had been assaulted to death and buried on a land belonging to the Army in Panagoda. However either the Army nor the Police was still able to verify the authenticity of the call. |
