Seven al-Qaeda members killed in fight with US, Pakistani forces WASHINGTON, Saturday (AFP) Seven members of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terror network were killed Friday in a clash with US and Pakistani forces searching for him in southeastern Afghanistan, ABC television reported. Two people were captured in the exchange of fire in the Baluchistan region not far from the Iranian and Pakistani borders, but they did not include bin Laden or his two sons, the report said. A provincial official in Baluchistan, southwest Pakistan, announced earlier Friday the arrest of two sons of bin Laden in Afghanistan but the report was then denied by Pakistani, Afghan and US officials including one at the White House. ABC reported that the CIA was ready to send back into the region at daybreak Predator drones, equipped with Hellfire missiles, and that they had White House authorization to open fire if they believe they have found bin Laden. |
