FM refutes 'turning a blind eye' claims

Foreign Affairs Minister Tyronne Fernando responding to accusations of the Foreign Ministry being ignorant about the arms-dealings of the LTTE stated that his Ministry was investigating and constantly exchanging information with foreign governments on any illegal arms deals.

On Friday People's Alliance spokesman Dr. Sarath Amunugama accused the United National Front Government of being ignorant of the LTTE's deal abroad.

Minister Fernando said that the Foreign Ministry was not turning a blind eye and contacts were being made constantly to monitor the information it receives.

"Instead of calling the media and slinging mud on the UNF Government , the PA spokesman could very well contact me and find out the details he wants." the Minister said, adding that he could not simply spell out what the Ministry was doing on sensitive issues. Therefore I urge Dr. Amunugama to contact me on matters related to these issues and I would be able to provide him with the necessary explanation", he said. (A.P)
