Chinese coach to train our shuttlers?

The arrival of the Malaysian based Indonesian badminton coach for a short assignment in Sri Lanka has been delayed due to "family problems" and the Asian Badminton Confederation (ABC) are making every attempt to send someone else instead within the next ten days.

The President of the Sri Lanka Badminton Association (SLBA), Riza Jumar, told the Sunday Observer that the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Johnston Fernando, is determined to get a highly qualified coach from China for an assignment in Sri Lanka for a period of three to four years.

He said: "The Chinese authorities have been informed through their Embassy in Colombo and negotiations are under way. They are scouting around, but it will take a little time."

Meanwhile, the SLBA will send a team for the Indonesian 'leg' of the Asian Satellite Circuit scheduled to be staged in Jakarta next month (April), but the financial implications are "a bit stiff" and as its soon after the SAF Games in Pakistan, the SLBA, will be taking a final decision on this matter soon.
