Satyagraha for peace: Leader of the Up-country People’s Front and Minister Periyaswamy Chandrasekaran organised a Satyagraha in support of the on-going peace process in Colombo yesterday. Religious leaders, politicians and several hundreds of civilians participated at the pro-peace Satyagraha in support of the peace initiatives of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. In a special message commending the participants of the Satyagraha Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe states: In the backdrop of certain groups trying to sabotage the peace process, it is encouraging to learn that up-country People’s Front is organizing a Satyagraha against the evil sections of the society.

Rising incidents of poaching by foreign fishermen : Navy steps up vigilance

The Navy has been ordered to intensify patrolling off the Northern coastal waters to prevent poaching by foreign fishing trawlers, Defence Secretary Austin Fernando told the Sunday Observer.
