Twenty five successful years in the creative field of music is an occasion for any musician to celebrate and to the Sri Lankan singer Edward Jayakody today April 6 is an extra special reason for celebration. Not only is it the day on which Edward Jayakody will be celebrating his quarter century in music with the launch of his latest CD 'Dedunu Palama' and a commemorative book entitled 'Marambari', it is also his birthday. So the festivities 'Edward jayakody Prathibavalokana' will be held today at the John de Silva Theatre from 5.00 pm onwards. A popular and acknowledged singer Edward Jayakody could rightly be termed synonymous with Sri Lankan music. His is a career that has registered hundreds of songs in films and teledramas which won him the Swarna Sanka Film Award in 1987 for the Best Male Singer for the film 'Gedara Budun Amma.' As a director of music, Edward Jayakody carried off the Best Music Director Award in 1979 and 1980 for the stage dramas 'Nidane' and 'Aparadaya Saha Danduwama' but above all his compositions of children's songs and production of children TV programs has endeared him to the large youth population of today. |
