Railways, CTB on full throttle during season

The Department of Railways and the Sri Lanka Central Transport Board have drawn out special transport facilities for passengers to go to their respective villages for New Year. The SLCTB has already started special long distance service, that will continue till April 22. The Railways will begin its special service from April 10 which will continue till April 27.

Sources at the Central Bus Station said that over 3,000 buses have been deployed during the festive season. The spokesman also said that priority has also been given to North and the East.

General Manager Railways, Priyal De Silva said that 22 special trains will be deployed for outstation services, and special trains from places like Katunayake To Galle and Rambukkana to Hatton.

The railways will also operate two special trains from Colombo to Vavuniya from tomorrow (April 7) up to April 13, to cater to the large crowd leaving for their hometowns, General Manager (Operations) K. A. Premasiri said. The trains will be Raja Rata Special.

The trains to Vavuniya will leave from Colombo Fort at 12.15 pm. and from Anuradhapura, a connecting train will take passengers to Vavuniya. The train will stop at Polgahawela, Kurunegala, Maho and Anuradhapura.

On the return journey, the train will leave Anuradhapura at 10.40 a.m. and will stop at Maho, Kurunegala, Polgahawela. However, the special trains will not operate from April 14-19 due to intervening holidays. Services will resume again from April 20 and continue till April 27.
