Pool of 26 picked for netball training but no national coach yet! by LESLIE FERNANDO The Interim Committee of the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka selected 26 players to train for the forthcoming 11th World Netball Championships to be held in July this year in Jamaica. These 26 players were selected after several trials held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. The 'pool' will be pruned down to 18 after further trials to be held after the Sinhalese New Year. The final 12 players will be picked in early May to make the trip for the World Championships. Despite selecting the players for the 'pool', a netball national coach has not been appointed. Milton Amerasinghe, Director General, Sports Ministry said that interviews were held to pick national coaches for almost all controlling bodies. There were 17 who sent in their application for the post of national netball coach. Two officials from the Interim Committee of the Netball Federation of Sri Lanka and one official from the Sports Ministry recommended ten names to the Sports Ministry. G. Punchihewa, the Secretary Ministry of Sports said that two members of the national selection committee and a member of the Sports Ministry will soon pick the national netball coach. The 26-member pool now under training are: Damayanthi Jayatileke, Gisanthie Jayakoddy, P. D. N. Prasadi, Chamika Alphonso, Dhammika Malkanthi, Anjana Thulari, Prasila Koch, Anoma Sriyakanthie, Gayathri Lankathileke, Shani Nissansala, Rathna Victoria, Thusari Dissanayake, Maheshika Priyadrshani, Niroshani Samadrika, Shashika Samarasinghe, Yamuna Priyadarshani, Lalani Priyangika, Angelie Lokuliyana, Shirani Gunathileke, Harshani Vijayalatha, Sanduni Bollegala, Narmada Wijeratne, Thaloja Perera, Somitha de Alwis, Anoma Sanjeevanee, Arunika Karavitage. |
