Observer - Bata Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Contests... As the annual 'Observer - Bata Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2003' contest hotted up into its 10th week, there was a pick up in the voting with Sisil de Silva of St. Benedict's College, Kotahena polling 1,774 votes for a total of 4,944 to maintain his lead in the All-Island contest while Roshan Abeyratne of St. Anne's College, Kurunegala continued to lead in the Outstation contest polling 1,802 votes after the counting of coupon No. 9. Sisil de Silva was ahead by 897 votes over second placed Yasith Mihiranga of D. S. Senanayake College (4,044 votes) with Avanka Peiris of Trinity College, Kandy in third place with 1,503 votes. The All-Island and the Outstation contests are organised by the 'Sunday Observer' and sponsored by Bata Shoe Company of Ceylon Limited. These contests end with Coupon No. 12, Coupon No. 11 will be published from Sunday April 6 and it will be repeated in the 'Daily News' later this week. In the 'Outstation Contest', Roshan Abeyratne of St. Anne's College, Kurunegala holds on to his lead and has collected 5,182 votes at the end of counting on coupon No. 9. Roshan had 3,380 votes in the previous week. Jayathu Neelaweera of Sri Sumangala, Panadura is second with 3,340 votes and Ishaf Razik of Azhar College, Akurana is third with 854 votes. Readers are reminded that they can send any number of coupons in an envelope provided the coupons are for one cricketer and the envelopes must be marked on the top left-hand corner the competition 'Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2003' 'All-Island' or 'Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2003' 'Outstation' as the case may be. |
