Nat. Services Inter-Corp VB tourney april 8 and 9 by LESLIE FERNANDO Nationalised Services Volleyball Federation will hold its annual Inter-Cooperation Volleyball Championships in two divisions, and over-40 tournament on April 8 and 9 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. In the 'A' Division, four teams are in the fray, defending champions Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Sri Lanka Transport Board, Petroleum Corporation and People's Bank. Sri Lanka Ports Authority, with several national spikers in its ranks, is favoured to retain the title. Meanwhile, ten teams will vie for championships honours in the 'B' Division - People's Bank, Insurance Corporation of Sri Lanka, National Estate Development Board, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Sri Lanka Transport Board, Foreign Services Unit, National Water Supply Board, State Printing Corporation, Bank of Ceylon and Ceylon Electricity Board. The over 40 tournament will consist of four teams - Bank of Ceylon, Sri Lanka Transport Board, Ceylon Electricity Board, and People's Bank. According to Susil Ranasinghe, General Secretary, Nationalised Services Volleyball Federation, the 'A' division matches and the over-40 tournament will be conducted on a league basis. The 'B' Division matches will be played in two groups on a knockout basis. The champions in the three sections will be awarded challenge trophies. There will be special awards to the best spiker, best setter, most valuable player in 'A'and 'B' division championships. |
