Action against unregistered security firms by Ramani Kangaraarachchi The Ministry of Interior will take stern action against security agencies that are not registered with the Ministry and do not comply with the legal requirments. The authorities have identified that some security firms do not pay decent salaries to employees and in offering tenders, they follow unfair and low level tactics to get more contracts. S. Wirithamulla, Additional Secretary, Auxiliary Forces and Civil security of the ministry of Interior said that it was the responsibility of Industrial Security Foundation (ISF) to induce and cultivate professionalism in the the security industry, because professionals were always equipped with the knowledge of the subject and were bound by a code of conduct and a set of accepted ethics. He was speaking at the 11th annual general meeting of the ISF and at its 10th anniversary celebrations at the Galle Face Hotel recently. He pointed out that the private security system in the country played a vital role in the national security mechanism and it had become an internal part of organisational life. Wirithamulla observed that many of the members in the industry were organised and disciplined but pointed out that several did not comply with the legal requirments or moral obligations. He said that ISF as a professional organisation should take serious measures to remedy such deficiencies prevailing in the industry. Asoka Wijetilleka, President ISF also addressed the gathering. |
