Hawker Street fest.back on May 1 by Anjana Gamage The largest street party in Colombo, the Hawker Street Food Festival will be held once again from May 1 to 4 at Greenpath, Colombo 7. Five star hotels and leading restaurants will offer Mongolian, Moghul, Chinese, Lebanese, Thai and Sri Lankan food at very reasonable prices. Apart from the food, there will also be a variety of entertainment including live bands, DJ music, Eastern and Western dance performances and cultural events by schoolchildren with Kiddies amusement parlours and a whole lot. Although the concept of Hawker Street is well-known in the South Asian Region, it was introduced in Colombo for the first time in December 2002. The project being the brainchild of the Colombo Municipal Council was organised in collaboration with "Trans-Ent", an event management company. Speaking at a press conference held at Galadari Hotel recently, Deputy Mayor of Colombo, Azath Salley said that the CMC hopes to continue with this event every three months as a gala entertainment for the public. At the Hawker street food festival, a grand musical show with Indian artistes along with popular local artistes, in attendance will be held on May 1 at the CMC grounds to celebrate the International Workers' Day. Hawker Street Food Festival 2003 is sponsored by the National Lotteries Board. |
