'Running your Enterprise' with Shell help The first Shell LiveWIRE 'Running Your Enterprise' (RYE) workshop termed Mage Vyaparaya was held for 16 young entrepreneurs from the Kegalle district, organised by the Sabaragamuwa Development Bank. Shell LiveWIRE, a community investment initiative of Shell Sri Lanka, aimed at developing and encouraging young entrepreneurs, targets youth between 16 and 32 years of age. RyE is a follow-up to the 'Bright Ideas' workshop also sponsored by Shell LiveWIRE. The bright ideas workshops aim to promote the option of enterprise to a wide audience, as well as to help participants identify the correct attitude, mind frame, and characteristics of a successful entrepreneur. RYE is offered as a value addition to the rest of LiveWIRE's services, and is intended for youth who have either identified a suitable business idea for themselves, or are already running their own business. While all 16 participants from Kegalle are currently running their own micro-businesses, ranging from beauty culture and bridal dressing to rubber ornament production and computer repairing, none of them had completed a business plan for their specific venture. The RYE workshop concentrated on explicating the content of the LiveWIRE booklets provided 'How to write your first Business Plan,' a business profile and 'Market Research for the First Time' which form the foundation of a business plan. The resource persons introduced and discussed the basic format of a business plan, elaborating on the four basic components, a sales plan, production plan, management plan and financial plan. |
