Vienna Boys Choir to delight local audiences again

The angelic voices of the Vienna Boys' Choir comprising 25 members, all between 10 and 14 years, will be heard at the Ceylon Continental Hotel in Colombo on June 25 at 7.30 p.m.The box plans and ticket sale details will be notified shortly. Proceeds from the concert will go to charity.

The program has been arranged by Classic Live (unlimited), whose president Paul Muller recalls that the boys from Vienna really fell in love with Sri Lanka, on their last visit in March 2002.

The Vienna Boy's Choir, the most prestigious children's choir in the world, which dates back to the 14th century, is delighted to return to our paradise island. They were warmly welcomed last year by the audience at the St. Theresa's Church, by all the children at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium and as a special honour by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who was the chief guest at the hotel concert.

The boys from Vienna greatly enjoyed the previous visit to Sri Lanka, specially after seeing the elephant orphanage in Pinnawela, a glimpse of the southern coast on invitation of Jetwing to the Blue Water Hotel and an afternoon at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. They also experienced a city tour in Colombo and a most enjoyable cricket course given by the famous sports reporter and expert, Ranjith Fernando. But most of all they enjoyed the overwhelming hospitality and friendliness of all Sri Lankans. These young ambassadors are promoting and praising Sri Lanka for its beauty and hospitable people all over the world. We are happy and privileged to welcome them once more.

They give over 300 performances each year and had the privilege of having been conducted by Zubin Metha and Richardo Meele amongst others. Besides church and classical music they sing traditional and contemporary music too.

The popular song 'Indunil Gangulal' received a standing ovation at all concerts and we are sure to enjoy a special musical surprise this year as well.

The Vienna Boys' Choir did the music for the movie "Primal Fear." Celebrities whom the Vienna Boys' have performed for include Napoleon Bonaparte, Sha Reza Pahlevi and John F. Kennedy, Jimmy Carter, Emperor Akihito of Japan, Princess Diana, Bill Clinton, Tony Blair and prime minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe in March 2002.
