Don't miss donor conference -Akashi by Deepal Warnakulasuriya Special Japanese Envoy Yashushi Akashi urged both the government and the LTTE not to miss the donor conference on June 9 and 10 in Tokyo as it was a great opportunity to regain and rebuild Sri Lanka. He also said that it would be a 'unique' opportunity for Sri Lanka since 60 governments and 20 international organisations are expected to participate in the two days conference. The visiting envoy gave both the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE a May 14 deadline to convey their decision about participating in the conference, to the host country government. Akashi said both Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Colombo and the LTTE leadership in Kilinochchi were informed about the deadline on Wednesday. He made these observations addressing local and foreign media last Friday evening before he left the country. |
