Indian involvement in peace progress should be considered

by Deepal Warnakulasuriya

Mahinda Rajapaksa, PA MP and Leader of the Opposition

Any government has to take measures for the safety of its people and the security of the country. Obtaining the assistance of two Indian individuals for advice on the High Security Zone issue is such a measure. However, I would be happy if it was on an official level through the Indian Government.

"I personally believe that Indian involvement in the peace process is something that should be considered. I have also suggested to the government to have an agreement between the Sri Lankan Navy and the Indian Navy to sort out the disputes in Indian seas as they will benefit the most. Dinesh Gunawardena MP, Leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna (MEP)

What we understand is that the Sri Lanka government being unable to get the official support of the Indian Government is instead obtaining the services of two professionals.

Therefore, I do not like to see it as India's involvement in the peace process. We are ready to accept any official support of India to end this conflict, but not that of individuals.

Any representation of India to sort out the problems on Sri Lankan seas is welcome. We would like them to be in the SLMM since we sincerely seek a solution to the problem.
