Khoo Huat wins SriLankan Stableford golf tourney

by S. M. JIFFREY ABDEEN Kandy Sports Corr.

Singaporean Khoo Chye Huat with 41 points won the Stableford competition at the second annual SriLankan Cargo's Golf Classic organised by the SriLankan Airlines in conjunction with the Victoria Golf Club and worked at the picturesque Victoria Golf Course at Rajawella in Digana yesterday.

Over 60 participants flew from Europe, the Sub Continent, the Middle East and the Far East for this competition which was an overwhelming success.

The sixty foreign participants were so enthralled with the scenic and challenging Victoria Golf Course that most of the first timers to this island were heard to whisper that they will be back very soon to this enchanting island with their families on a holiday. They were also highly taken back with the generous hospitality offered by the SriLankan Airlines whose reputation in this field is well-known.

Aynur Rasulova had accompanied her husband last year and following the putting competition had taken to the game much to the delight of her husband Richard. This year she played a respectable 23 and 16.

Michael Schork was seen pacing the club house as his early score of 39 edged him clear of Allen Green who played a competent 38, however, he was soon joined by Sameer Khatri and finally pipped at the post by a superb 41 from Khoo Chye Huat from Singapore. So with the two players tied on 38, a 'sudden death' putt out was to be played to decide the runner-up and all eyes turned to the putting green. Michael Schork held his nerve to secure runner-up berth with Sameer Khatri vowing that he would be back again next year for revenge.

Khoo Chye Huat who flew from Singapore was overjoyed to have won this event and remarked "Last year I was runner-up and this year the Champion. This is a very challenging course to play on and I am looking forward to next year's competition".

The result of the SriLankan Cargo Golf Competition:

Longest Drive - Allen Green.
Crazy Golf Nigel O'Bhea (England).
Putting Competition: Nigel O'Shea (England).

Individual Competition: Champion - Khoo Chye Huat (Singapore) Runner-up - Michael Schork (Germany) Team Event won by: Bob Allen (England), Norio Yamaguchi (Japan), and Joas Pires Ramos (Middle East).
