Rock revived...

The Rock Company held its second rock musical evening on Saturday April 26 at the 80 Club, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7.

The event, although a bit dampened at the start by a heavy spell of rain that occurred around the time the event was set to commence - did not disappoint the rockers that filled the place to capacity.

The event was kicked off by Blood Lust, a new band making their debut at a Rock Company event. The next band that came on was Brass Face, comprising Thilak Dias, Stewart Mayo, Kumar Mirchandani and Jehan Rajapakse, all of whom are highly experienced musicians who rocked the place with a selection of vintage classic rock songs by Jimmy Hendrix, Gary Moore, Cream and Bob Dylan Brass Face was followed by the talented band Ezra - the band which won the On Stage event organised by TNL Radio last year. Ezra led by Billy Fernando on lead guitar blitzed the place with six songs that included some Gospel Rock tracks.

Ezra was joined by Navin Fernandopulle for a couple of songs and displayed his exceptional talent on guitar. To everyone's delight the popular rock band Stigmata made a surprise appearance and belted out six sizzlers, including four original tracks from their Debut Album titled "Hollow Dreams" that is to be released in July this year. The band's leader Suresh de Silva also announced that a singles CD with two tracks from the album would be released by mid-May as a precursor to the release of the "Hollow Dreams" album. The singles CD will be available for sale at the next Rock Company event planned for the last Saturday in May at the same venue.

Stigmata was followed by Cold Fusion who played an electrifying set comprising currently popular new wave alternate rock songs.

Cold Fusion was followed by Stone Broke, who also made their debut appearance at a Rock Company event. The band played a set consisting of four originals.

The last set comprised an electrifying jam session with Andrew from Stigmata playing lead guitar. Thilak Dias of Rattlesnake fame on Bass, Pravin Perera from Sage Merlyn on drums, Billy Fernando from Ezra playing guitar and Michael Raj from Cold Fusion also on guitar; with Suresh from Stigmata, Anil from Independence Square and Mirshard of Paranoid Earthling on vocals. This set embodied what the Rock Company is all about, as these musicians from different bands, rock genres and generations played in harmony.

The next rock event by the Rock Company will be on Saturday the May 24 from 6.30 p.m. onwards at the 80 Club, Independence Avenue, Colombo 7. Stigmata, Ezra, Cold Fusion, Paranoid Earthling, Fallen and Stone Broke will be playing separate sets.

Stigmata who are releasing their first single and Independence Square who have released two CDs will have their CDs for sale at the venue. Fans of these bands will be able to get the CDs autographed by members of both bands who will be present that day.
