SLT nabs call booth pirates

Five suspects including an Indian national who had cheated the Sri Lanka Telecommunication Ltd, (SLT) for a sum of Rs. 15.1 million by not paying for international calls made through their call booths have been arrested by CID officials, Police sources told "Sunday Observer".

Sources said that the Indian passport holder is also involved in a drug related offence where he was given bail by courts.

The five suspects have been ordered to appear before the Kegalle Magistrate on May 22 for an identification parade. The suspects had set up public (IDD) call booths in various parts of the country including Rabukkkana, Kandy, Nawala-Rajagiriya and Panadura areas and tried to vanish without paying the SLT for calls.

Several SLT employees have been questioned with regard to giving IDD dialling facilities for the suspects, the Police said.
