Schools swimming and diving on separate days

The 30th Sri Lanka Schools Swimming and Diving Championships conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association will be held separately.

First the Diving Championships will be worked off on June 21 and 22 at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool and the Swimming Championships on June 26, 27, 28 and 29 at the same venue.

Record entries are expected for this year's championship in both diving and swimming according to Ms. Ranjani de Fonseka, Secretary Sri Lanka Schools Aquatic Sports Association (SLSASA). Entries for both will close on May 27 at 12 noon with the Secretary, SLSASA, Bishop's College Colombo 3.

Diving

The diving will be worked off in six age groups for both boys and girls - under-9, under-11, under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-19.

The divers under 9 and under 11 could participate only in one metre and three metre spring board diving while the divers under-13 to under-19 age groups can dive in one metre and three metre spring board and in the platform diving event.

The competition schedule - June 21: at 8. 00 am one metre spring board (all age groups) June 22: at 8.00 am three metre spring board (all age group) at 2.00 pm platform diving (under-13, under-15, under-17, under-19).

The best diver in all age groups will be selected and trophies will be presented. The overall champions and runners-up will also receive awards.

Points will be awarded for the first three places as follows:-

First place (7 points), second place (5 points), and third place (3 points).

Swimming

Swimming will also be worked off in six age categories for both boys and girls, under-9, under-11, under-13, under-15, under-17 and under-19. The meet will be run on a timed final basis and the one start rule will apply.

The number of entries allowed per competitor, per school, per event will be: One age group per competitor, two relay teams per school per age group, three individual events per competitor excluding diving, four competitors per event, per school in the under-9, under-11, under-13 age groups and three competitors per event, per school in under-15, under-17 and under-19 age group.

Points will be awarded for the first six places as follows:- Individual first (10 points), second (7), Third (5), fourth (3), fifth (2), sixth (1) relay-first (15), second (10), third (6), fourth (4), fifth (3), sixth (2).

The overall champions in both boys and girls will be selected and trophies will be presented.

The events for under-9, under-11 and under-13 are: 200 metres freestyle, 50 metres breast stroke, 100 metres breast stroke, 50 metres back stroke, 100 metres back stroke, 4x50 metres individual medley, 200 metres back stroke, 4x50 metres medley relay, 4x100 metres medley relay, 400 metres freestyle, 100 metres freestyle, 200 metres breast stroke, 50 metres butterfly stroke, 100 metres butterfly stroke, 4x50 metres freestyle relay, 4x100 metres freestyle relay, 50 metres freestyle.

The events for under-15, under-17 and under-19 - 4x100 metres individual medley, 400 metres freestyle, 1500 metres freestyle, 100 metres back stroke, 200 metres back stroke, 100 metres butterfly stroke, 200 metres free style, 4x100 metres medley relay, 200 metres butterfly stroke, 200 metres back stroke, 800 metres freestyle, 4x50 metres individual medley, 100 metres freestyle, 100 metres breast stroke, 4x100 metres freestyle relay, 50 metres freestyle.

The program and order of events for four days: June 26: 8.00 am, opening ceremony and 8.45 am swimming events start and individual events for juniors from 2.00 pm, individual events for seniors, June 27: 8.00 am individual events for juniors and 2.00 pm individual events for seniors June 28: 8.00 am individual events for juniors and 2.00 pm individual events for seniors, June 29: at 8.00 am swimming events and medley relays for juniors and seniors at 1.00 pm swimming events and freestyle relays for seniors. On June 29: 4.00 pm closing ceremony and the awards distribution.
