Madras - strong challenge in dual against Colombo

Madras Boat Club will send a crew of 25 oarsmen and oarswomen for the Madras-Colombo Regatta to be held at the CRC, Beira Lake on May 24 starting from 3.00 p.m.

Deva Henry, President of the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka said that rowers from Madras will arrive on May 21 and they will practise on two days at the Beira Lake. Madras Boat Club will make every effort to win the Deepam Challenge Trophy which was won by Colombo in 1999. The Colombo rowers are training hard to retain the title.

The events to be rowed off for both men and women are sculls, pairs and fours. Deva Henry added that the Executive Committee of ARASAL which met on Tuesday decided to hold the Rowing Nationals in August.
