The world pageant is scheduled to start today at the Las Vegas Hilton, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA and will go on till 23rd of this month (June 8 -23).

Mirani was the first runner-up at the Mrs. Sri Lanka for Mrs. World Pageant in 1999 and has been nominated this year to represent Sri Lanka at Mrs. World 2003. West Brook and Harpe Partnership, the franchise holder in Sri Lanka for Mrs. World has decided to nominate Mirani (31) considering her all round personality embellished with her education. She holds a Degree in Business Administration, and hopes to pursue an MBA.

"We felt it was not worth holding a fresh pageant when compared to the expense the sponsors have to bear. So we decided Mirani would be ideal for this year's contest since she has all the qualifications needed. She was the first-runner-up at the pageant where Shivani Wedanayake won the crown as Mrs.Sri Lanka in 1999," said Athula Senanayake, representative of the franchise holder.

The official sponsors for Mrs.Sri Lanka for Mrs. World 2003 is OPTIMUM perfumes. Hotel Galadari Colombo is the sponsoring official hotel. Michael Wijesooriya will be the official dress designer for Mirani for the Mrs. World.Mrs. World pageant was first held in 1984 in Honolulu, Hawaii and was designed to celebrate the radiance of the married women in the world. It was won by Sri Lanka's Rosy Senanayake, who is today Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Malaysia.

The pageant is owned and operated by the Mrs.World Inc. of Los Angeles, and has been successfully developed into a truly international event. Mirani currently works as a Marketing and Administration Executive at General Sales Agents for British Airways World Cargo.

She was a student of Girls' High School, Kandy. Mirani said she was a keen basket ball player in school, and learnt Bharatha Natyam quite for some time. Gardening and reading have been her hobbies since she was a small girl. Her marriage with Shiran de Silva at the age of twenty opened the doors to the world of talent. Modelling was one offer received by her. "I model now and then mainly for Michael Jayasooriya and Ramani Fernando, but do not make it as a part of my career as I have a limited time to spare for it," she said.

Mirani who is a mother of two daughters of 9 and 7 years, and a son of 4 years tries her best to devote her time to her three children. She appreciates the enormous support she gets from her husband, parents, two brothers and especially the in-laws who have never failed to lend her a helping hand whenever required to make her dreams come true and realise her goals.
