Rock on track gear up
for the next gig!

Rock fans and musicians can look forward to a mind-blowing event with "Rock Fest," a concert organised by Rock Company, scheduled for June 21st. It will feature seven leading rock bands - Stigmata, Independent Square, Brass Face, Ezra, Cold Fusion, Paranoid Earthling and Stone Broke.

Having kick-started a revival in rock music with their monthly sessions at the 80 Club, Rock Company hopes to raise funds towards the setting up of a studio with the proceeds of this gig.

Rock company's last session at the 80 Club Saturday 24th May was an unprecedented success with the venue filled to capacity for the over 6-hour session, according to a media release from Rock Company:

The evening showcased the pulse driving sounds of seven rock bands, with power chords, distorted guitars, the thunderous drums and bass and equally powerful vocals. It was an evening of entertainment, anticipation and raw energy with so many innovative groups exploring original compositions. The audience were spread all over the venue, either chanting to the original tunes, relaxing to the unique sounds offered to them or just flocking together to 'head bang' and sweat the whole night through. The mood that prevailed during the entire show was one of unexpected euphoria.

The unique feature of the event was the fact that the majority of songs played were original compositions of the bands.

The young, the middle aged and the elderly alike shared the same passion for the original sounds. These songs exemplified the high degree of musical talent in the country and one tends to wonder why these deserving young musicians have so far not been given a helping hand to develop their talents. Many present that day were of the opinion that a new era had dawned for the Sri Lankan music scene. There was tremendous crowd support, with some chanting the lyrics along with the band.

The evening opened with sounds of new act Blood lust, Xenon and reputed guitarist Primal Liyanage. The gospel power house rock band Ezra played a energetic set of songs. Classic guru's Brass Face jammed a set of enchanting numbers by Cream, Hendrix and the Beatles and showed everyone they had it in them to satisfy every generation of rock listeners.

Metal band Stigmata played a hard hitting set consisting mainly of their complex steel crafted originals which included 'The dying winter sleeps', 'Thicker than blood' and 'Andura' which was released in the form of a singles CD Release titled 'Morbid Indiscretion'. Over 200 EP's were sold at the venue setting a new standard which was an encouragement for other bands.

A very impressive four piece from Kandy calling themselves 'Paranoid Earthling' kept the crowd roaring and their thirst quenched. Their set comprised originals of which the song 'Highway' is worth noting. Popular alternative rock band Cold Fusion played an electrifying list of songs, with solid originality which was heard in compositions 'Illusion of faith' and 'Empathy'. The Fallen played a tight set, keeping rock lovers pinned to the floor.

'The cause' was a stunning original from them. Gothic Rock band Stone Broke complemented the session with the gloomy mood evoking original tracks such as 'Invictus' and 'What you are' which had depth and a lot of musical spirit.

After these bands performed, musicians of every genre united to jam out a set of classic tracks.
