PM gets award for courage and charisma Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will be conferred with the prestigious Asian Hero award by the Time Magazine for his role in the Sri Lankan peace process on June 11, soon after the Donor conference concludes in Tokyo. Premier Wickremesinghe was selected as one of the 29 Asian Heroes for year 2003 in April 21 issue of the Asian edition of the Time Magazine. Time said the Lankan Prime Minister was selected for standing up to his President and other power forces with the rebel Tamil Tigers. Time said its Asian Hero's extraordinary courage, charisma and genius enabled them to make a big difference in their societies or fields. "In these treacherous times of war and peace we look their bravery as an example and an inspiration. By refusing to succumb to apathy or despair, they give us the will to forge ahead when we might otherwise lose heart. They are purveyors of hope" Time Asia Deputy Editor William Green, has stated. |
