Police, Air Force and Army assured of semi-final berths

Police, Air Force and Army looked certain of semi final berths in the men's open of the Toshiba Cup Hockey Sevens and Global Youth Tournament which commenced at Police Park yesterday.

In a draw from four groups, Police, headed Group-A beating Old Trinitians 6-0 , and Air Force led Group-B beating Old Anandians 3-0 and Sylvestrians 4-0 while Army looked likely to head Group-C depending on the goal average. They got the better of Navy 1-0 to be among the front runners.

Meanwhile, in the women's open, 3 teams - Young Stars, KH & FC, Kandy and BRC were vying for two semi final berths from Group-A. In Group-B, Seethadevi BMV, Kandy beat Sangamitta Balika M.V, Kandy 2-0 and Colombo Colts beat Sangamitta 1-0 and Colombo Ladies 4-0 to vie for semi-final berths.

In the under-15 girl's event, the semi-final line-up was Group-A leaders Yasodara BMV, who beat Sangamitta BMV 5-0 and Christ Church 2-0, was to play the Group-B runner-up Mahamaya who beat Pushpadana 1-0 while Group-B winners Seethadevi BMV, who beat Vijaya Girls School, Matale 4-0, Pushpadana 1-0 and Sirimavo BMV, Colombo 9-0, was to meet the runner-up of Group-A to be decided by today's encounter between Museaus College and Girls High School, Kandy. The tournament will be continued today.
