by RANJAN ANANDAPPA

CH & FC put the breaks on the unbeaten run of CR & FC when they pulled off a hard fought 22 points (two goals, one try and penalty) to 14 points (Two goals) win in a Caltex 'A' division league rugger match played at Maitland Crescent yesterday. The Maitland Crescent Club dominated almost the entire first half with some cohesive play scoring two tries and penalty to their opponents 7 points which came through a penalty try for obstruction where Charith Kodagoda giving them the extra points.

CH & FC opened scoring when their full back Dinuk Wijeratne gave the finishing touch to a fine three quarter move and fly half Nalin Dissanayake added the extra points. CH & FC extended their lead when winger Alex Teles touched down and Dissanayake's accurate kick gave them further points. At the breather CH & FC led 17-7.

On resumption, CR & FC rallied around to insert pressure but could not convert their moves into points due to mistakes. They dropped the ball at vital stages but managed to keep their opponents scoreless until the last minute when Duminda de Silva put to the issue beyond CR's reach with try. Earlier in the second half, Charles Laisi crossed the CH line and Roshan Pieris gave them the extra points.
