ANCL makes Mihintale glitter

The Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya took on a special glow when the festival of lights, marking the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, was inaugurated by a panel of distinguished guests on Friday. This is the 41st year the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited has undertaken to illuminate Mihintale, on the advice of the Upa-Pradhana Adhikarana Sanga Nayaka and trustee of Mihintale Raja Maha Viharadhipathi Ven. Namalwewe Dharmakeerthi Sri Rathanajothi Rathanasara Nayaka Thera. Power and Energy Minister Desabandu Karu Jayasuriya switched on the supply in the presence of a large number of devotees. Provincial council ministers and parliamentarians led by Ministers Lal Gamege, P. Harrison and Ms. Chandrani Bandara MP were present at the ceremony. As a part of the Poson celebrations, ANCL also launched a website for Mihintale. Transport and Aviation Minister Tilak Marapana along with Anuradhapura District Secretary W. M. R. B. Wanninayake, will switch on the lights to conclude the festival today.
