Jewellers to help gem miners hit by floods

The Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association and the National Gem and Jewellery Authority appeal for funds to build 100 houses for gem miners, who lost their homes during the recent flood. The most needy, especially in the Ratnapura district will be identified following visits by the trade to affected areas, jeweller, A.P. Jayarajah said.

Building material costing Rs 50,000 will be provided for building each house 400 sq., ft. The Industrial Development Board will provide the technical expertise and the beneficiary will have to contribute his labour. The houses will be handed over under the patronage of a national leader and a plaque will be affixed to each house bearing the name of the donor.

Cheques could be sent in favour of `Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association' A/c No 1107280301, Commercial Bank of Ceylon (Kollupitiya branch). An official receipt will be issued.
