Potter Mania: J.K. Rowling’s pint-sized hero made a grand return to selected bookstores worldwide yesterday, with his latest adventure ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’. And local Potter fans, eager not to miss out on the action, braved last morning’s torrential downpour to be part of the simultaneous worldwide launch at GMT 0000 hours - 5.00 a.m. local time at Vijitha Yapa Book Shop. Potter fans young and old worldwide have already booked 14 million copies of the 255,000-word book, the fifth in the Potter series. 1,100 of the 2000 copies ordered for Sri Lanka have also been booked. In a path-breaking initiative, the Most Venerable Udugama Buddharakhitha Thera, Mahanayaka of the Asgiriya Chapter, visits Jaffna later this week, in the first visit to the Peninsula by a Mahayanaka Thera in thirty years.

Govt. wants more SLMM monitors

Ban on health sector strikes?
