President 58 today President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga celebrates her 58th birthday today, with a number of religious ceremonies in Colombo, Attanagalla and several other areas. The ceremonies include a Bodhi Pooja pinkama at 6.00 pm at the Attanagalle Rajamaha Viharaya organised by the Welfare Association of the Presidential Secretariat. A 'heel dana pinkama' is also scheduled for 7.00 am at the Jayasekararama temple at Kuppiyawatte. A Catholic Holy Mass will be held at the St. Mary's Church, Nayakakanda in Wattala and an Islamic ceremony will take place at the Dawatagaha Mosque near the Town Hall. A Hindu Pooja has also been arranged at the Hindu Kovil at Captain's Gardens, D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha at 4.30 pm. A special 'Devapooja' and an alms giving for the poor, organised by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party's Jaffna Branch will take place at the Kristuraja Church at 10.00 am to invoke blessings on the President. |
