Adept at abstract painting by ANJANA GAMAGE Creating records as the artist who drew 50 oil paintings on 21x27 canvases with headings, in a duration of 24 hours in November last year, Bernard Perera, is busy these days with his latest exhibition titled "Siththara Manasa" (An artist's vision). His exhibition will display 60 oil paintings at the Lionel Wendt Art Gallery from July 10 to 12. The opening ceremony will take place under the patronage of the Minister of Irrigation and Water Management Gamini Jayawickrama Perera on July 10 at 10.00 am in the presence of media personality Edwin Ariyadasa, actor Ravindra Randeniya and Prof. Vinie Witharana. "Now there is hope in everyone with the dawn of peace. Most of my paintings for this year's exhibition depict the theme of peace", Perera said his interest is in abstract painting. He is self-taught and independent and has hardly any links with any 'group'. According to Bernard, the first art medium in the world is painting. "We can show our talent to others through the medium of art. Bring out to the canvass that the images raised in one's mind are drawing" - that is my definition of art, he said. |
