LTTE Remembrance Day held yesterday

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam commemorated Remembrance Day of Black Tigers in the North and the East yesterday, with red and yellow flags.

The main commemorative event was held at Nelliaddi Central College in Vadamarachchi the location of the first ever Black Tiger suicide attack against a Sri Lankan army unit which was engaged in the Vadamarachchi operation in 1987.

Captain Miller launched the attack by driving a truck loaded with explosives into the Nelliaddi Army Camp on July 5, 1987.

Since then 240 Black Tigers, known as suicide cadres have been killed in several suicide attacks, according to LTTE sources .

Several of the Black Tigers were deployed to torpedo naval vessels and to penetrate Forward Defence Lines (FDL) of the armed forces during the confrontations between LTTE and the forces. (AP)
