Local apparel exporters at world's biggest trade show

For the first time, 10 local apparel exporting companies will be participating at the Apparel Sourcing Association Pavilion (ASAP), the largest biannual garment and textile sourcing trade show in the world, to be held at the Hotel Hilton in Las Vegas, USA from August 24-27.

The event is organised by Cyber Merchants Exchange (C-Me) Inc. CA, USA with the objective of bringing leading manufacturers from around the world to one venue.

Participation

The Lankan companies that will participate are Shadeline Pvt Ltd, Design Garments, Dynamic Clothing, Eco Apparels Pvt Ltd, Hi-Q Fashions Pvt Ltd, Kane Apparels Pvt Ltd, Pride Labels, Readywear Industries, Superior Knitwear Co Ltd, Viking Fashions Pvt Ltd and Turus Lanka Pvt Ltd.

The Export Development Board is organising the national pavilion and leading the delegation. All exporters anticipate bringing down big brands and buyers to Sri Lanka.

Event

According to the organisers, during the show there will be a match-making session, seminars, advertisements as well as a sourcing directory and a daily show to help promote the exhibitors and secure orders, said a spokesman for C-Me's Sri Lanka office.

He said no other apparel show in the world has a match-making session, "but we have it since we want to ensure that exhibitors get the maximum benefits". During the ASAP show, there will be seminars by the National Retail Federation, the only US organisation with all retailers as members; Sandler Travis and Rosenberg, an international trade law firm that helps write US trade laws like NAFTA and Ago; SGS, the world's largest quality assurance and testing company; and CIT, the world's largest factoring company. Over 250 garment exporters and manufacturers from 40 different countries will showcase their products to US buyers.

This will be a great opportunity for Sri Lankan companies to get new ideas and an understanding of the world trends.

Advertising

The MR magazine will be placed in all hotel rooms in Las Vegas during the apparel shows Magic, DNR and WWD while advertising will be carried out in the newspapers - California Apparel News, New York Apparel News and Chicago Apparel News.

The organisers will also have a mobile billboard driving around Las Vegas, letting everyone know about the show and an electronic billboard outside the Las Vegas Convention Centre with the advertisement placed there every minute for 15 seconds. People will pass out flyers at the Hilton, inside the convention centre and outside.

ASAP was conceived by C-Me to introduce its base of global textile and garment manufacturers to international buyers such as Seras, Roebok, JC Penny, Joy and Tommy Hilfiger.

ASAP has previously been utilised to showcase products by the vendors and manufacturers of Adidas, Banana Republic, B&B Sweater Mills, Baby GAP, Baby Togs, Bealls Outlet, Brands, C&A, Consolidated Stores, D5fashion, Dollar General Dress Barn, Express, Family Dollar, GAP, H&M, Hajo, Icelebrity, JC Penney, Jones New York, Joyce Leslie, KMart, Kalico, Liz Clairborne, LA Loving, Lerner New York, Limited, M&S, Marmaxx Macy's, Nautica, NIKE, Old Navy, On Tour, Rivers End, Primark, Saks 5th Avenue, Sears, Surf, Target, Tommy Hilfiger, Teidem, Value City, Wal-Mart, WearMe and Zara.

Objective

The main objective of the C-Me Inc, Sri Lanka office is to provide a pavilion for local apparel exporters to rally around and be ready for 'Year 2005' and beyond. The office, in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce, initially organised a seminar titled 'How to enter the US Market' in April where Laurie Boon, Global Sourcing Directress of ASAP addressed leaders from the apparel sector.

Having received a good response from the Export Development Board, Board of Investment and various chambers of commerce, it decided to promote the ASAP show among Sri Lankan apparel exporters.

ASAP is a natural extension of C-Me's business model. C-Me is an international B2B electronic trading company founded at the onset of the dot.com boom. The publicly traded company uses its proprietary web-based software to create efficiencies for retailers of their own private market place to source and finance international purchases.

C-Me is the only internet company that successfully transacts international business online without a Letter of Credit.
