Fraud probe delays G.C.E. A/L results by Anjana Gamage The results of the GCE A/L examination will be delayed due to investigations being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), into the leaking of the Sinhala A/L Examination question paper, the Commissioner General of Examinations W.A.M. Wijayasiri told the "Sunday Observer". "The CID has not been able to find any evidence to corroborate the widespread allegation that the paper had been leaked out prior to the examination. However, the CID have not handed over its final report to the Department still. Therefore, we are unable to release the GCE A/L results", the Commissioner pointed out. "Although the practical tests of the A/L examination is still going on and expected to conclude on July 20 and hopefully, the results could be released by mid August", he assured. A total of 251,727 candidates with 212,194 school candidates and 39,533 private candidates sat for this year's A/L examination. The CID began its probe into the leakage on a request made by Education Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku following allegations that a well-known tuition master who is also a popular author and film producer, had access to the paper before the test was held. |
