CRC 'Blues' win Pairs and Fours events

The Colombo Rowing Club (CRC), 'Blues' rowed with authority to win both the men's Pairs and men's Fours and carried away the prestigious V. A. Julius Challenge Cup and the Harry Creasy Cup at the two day Harry Creasy Regatta held at the Beira Lake yesterday.

Usman Fatharally (B) and Asiri Abayaratne (S) of CRC 'Blues' took the V. A. Julius Challenge Cup winning the Men's Pairs defeating the CRC 'Whites' pair of Kushantha Jeerasinghe (B) and Devaka Seneviratne (S) by 7 secs. the time taken was 6 mts 50 secs. In the main event, the men's Fours for Harry Creasy Cup the CRC 'Blues' crew composed of Udesh Hettiarachchi, Devaka Seneviratne, Kushantha Jeerasinghe Asiri Abhayaratne and Sharen Kannangara had to give of their best to beat the CRC 'Whites' by a canvass 6 mts 17 secs. CRC 'Whites' were represented by Devaka Aluwihare, Heshan Henry, Usman Fatharally, Prajith Perera and Mehran Careem.

Mewan Goonawardena of Old Joes SC retained the Men's Scull event and was awarded the Herman Sirimanne Cup. For Mewan it was his second win in a row defeating Udesh Hettiarachichi of Colombo Rowing Club by 34 secs-time 7 mts 10 secs. Anusha de Silva of Museaus College was the winner of Ladies Scull and won the President's Trophy.

In the Ranfer Sprints the tradition rivals Royal and Thomians had to share the trophy with a tie-11 points each on Scull, Pairs and Fours. Priya David a former senior oarsman and Colombo Rowing Club captain was the chief guest. Ladies Scull for President's Trophy. Anushka de Silva of Musaeus College beat Niroshani Seniviratne of Ladies College by 6 secs. (Time: 5 mts 6 secs).

Men's Scull for Herman Sirimanne Cup. Mewan Goonewardena of old Joes SC beat Udesh Hettiarachchi of CRC easily (Time 7 mts 10 secs)

Ladies Fours for Ladies Plate; Niroshini Seneviratne (B) Sashini Amerasinghe (2) Ravindi Walisinghe (3) Charudika Arthanayake (S) Nireka Cooray (Cox) beat Perinde Gamage (B) Nishandhi Ranasooriya (z) Shadeena Mendis (3) Anya Ratnayake (5) Sayomi Jayasinghe (Cox) by 25 secs (time 4. mts 34 secs)
