Outstation schools ride high with overall results by Anjana Gamage Over 2500 candidates had obtained 'A's at the GCE A/L examination which was held in April 2003. Results which was released last week, also revealed that while students of St. Bridget's Convent, Colombo, Maliyadeva Boys' School in Kurunegala, Ananda College, Colombo and Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo had topped the scores for bio-science, engineering, commerce and arts respectively, several outstation schools had obtained better overall results. These schools include Science College, Matale, Central College, Anuradhapura, Hindu College, Jaffna, Ibbagamuwa Central College, Kurunegala, Thammitagama Central College, Mahawa, St. Paul's Girls' School, Wennappuwa, C.W.W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya, Matugama, Dharmashoka Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda, Southlands College, Sangamiththa College, Galle, Mahamaya College, Kandy and Darmapala Vidyalaya in Pannipitiya A total of 93,286 students have qualified for university entrance, but only 14,260 will be admitted due to 'limited resources' ", a spokesman to the Education Ministry said. A total of 213,711 candidates sat for the A/L exam of which 9174 have qualified for bio-science, 7194 for engineering, 28,656 for commerce and 48260 for arts. |
