Private-sector printing industry to be upgraded by Deepal Warnakulasuriya One of the government's major objectives is providing more opportunities to private sector printing establishments as they play the biggest role in the country's printing industry. The government will also create opportunities to have just and fair competition between State printers and the private sector to sharpen their skills and abilities, Minister of Mass Communication, Imtiaz Bakeer Markar said at the inauguration ceremony of the 3rd South-Asia Print Congress and Exhibition at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Exhibition Centre at the BMICH on Friday. The Minister said that the Government would announce a 'Printing Charter' to facilitate the improvement of local printers to cater to the international printing industry and urged the private sector to play its rightful role in ensuring its successful implementation. Over 100 international printing companies are participating in the 3rd South-Asia Print Congress and Exhibition. The Minister said that the Congress of Printers of the South Asia region, and the exhibition itself had demonstrated the printing skills and capabilities of the local trade and that it would open avenues for local printers to enter the international market. The exhibition which commenced on Friday (15) will be held till 6.00 pm this evening and will showcase what the printing industry has to offer, including offset machinery, flexo-screen, digital printing, pre-press, selection-scanners, plate makers, digital cameras, computers and software equipment with the latest technology post-press equipment like lamination, binding and cutting machinery. |
