Priyadarshana excels in Swimming Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Sports Club was recently adjudged the overall winners of the Swimming Championships of the 7th National Sports Festival for the Disabled sponsored by Dialog GSM. This feat was due in no small part to extraordinary performances by SLLI swimmers K. V. C. Priyadarshana who won all three 100 metres events in the S-10 men category and S. N. Jayarathne who won all three 50 metres events in the Deaf Men category. Priyadarshana was also a part of the SLLI relay team that won a Silver medal in the S-10 men category 4x100 metres freestyle relay. The SLLI SC has greatly benefited from the talents of swimmers such as Priyadarshana, who has to date won 3 Gold medals at the last two Far East South Pacific (FESPIC) Games and has participated in premiere sporting events such as the Dutch National Championships, in the Paralympics World Championships in the Freestyle, Breaststroke and Backstroke disciplines. Priyadarshana also represents the Army as their captain in conventional swimming events and the SLLI SC as their captain in disabled categories in various swimming meets. Other swimmers besides Priyadarshana and Jayarathne who made an impact at the swimming championships with their exemplary performances were: H. A. Asanka Kumara of the Gajaba SC who won all 3 events in the S-11 (B-01) men category, Chamarei Kuda Balage of Rehab Lanka SC who won all of her 3 events in the Deaf women category; S. C. Mallawaarachchi of the Vijayabahu Infantry SC who won both the freestyle 50 M and 100 M events in the S-12 (B-02) Men category. |
