A dazzler in rainbow colours Wijaya Gems, a company specialising in jewellery made of coloured precious stones, opened a store at the Gem and Jewellery Exchange of the World Trade Centre. The Rainbow Range was also introduced by the company comprising stones aligned to the colours of the rainbow, to the local market. Immensely popular in the US, the Rainbow Range can be used for any item of jewellery. Wijaya Gems was founded by the late 1980s by Pinsiri Wijepala who has now diversified into other fields including the hotel industry, communications and even the education sector. He and business partner Chaturajith Gunatilake have many plans for the growth of the company including the opening of a new showroom on Galle Road, Colombo 3. Wijaya Gems exports stones to the US, Germany, Japan and New Zealand. The company has a wholesale outlet in Bangkok and supplies many high-end jewellery stores in Sri Lanka. The awards it has won includes National Chamber of Exporters Export Awards and International Award for Technology and Quality 2002 from Editorial OFICE of Geneva, Switzerland. Wijepala won the Provincial Merit Award for the Sabaragamuwa Province at the Sri Lanka Entrepreneur of the Year Awards in 2000. The company is a member of international organisations including the International Coloured Gem Stones Association, International Trade Leaders' Club and International Chamber of Commerce (Sri Lanka). |
