The six bands that played satisfied the crowds, earning their respect and showing that the spirit and unity of rock can't be hindred by a bit of foul weather. After yesterday's Stigmata launch the next Rock Saturday event will be on September 20. In spite of bad weather rock fans still gathered on masse on July 26 for Rock company's monthly session, held at the Old Wesleyites Sports Club. As always Rock Company was prepared for the worst of conditions. A shed was put up and the club itself provided shelter from the rain. The majority of bands that night couldn't care less about the weather condition no more than the crowds that came to watch their favourite bands perform, and it was that positive attitude that made the 26th evening, regardless of the initial showers. Voyage took the stage first; displaying a well rehersed set of originals and covers. Voyage projected the perfect vibe to build the mood of the crowds. New band Whirlwind played next. This is one of the newest and very impressive bands to plug in that night. The guys played a tremendous list of songs depicting absolute energy and power especially with superb originals 'Whirlwind' and 'She's on Fire'. In addition they broke new ground by playing two Sinhala rock songs composed by them. Grunge, Kings, Paranoid Earthling literally blew the venue away with tight, perfected musical persona and prowess. A fine performance, a killer live act and originals 'Pull me Under' and 'Bringing Down The Sun' electrified the venue. They also delivered covers by The OffSpring, Nirvana and early Pearl Jam. Paranoid Earthling is a four piece from Kandy and they travelled the entire distance and played what is perhaps one of their best shows to date. Alternative heroes and the feature band that evening, Independent Square gave a very energetic show considering the fact that they came for the Rock Saturday event after playing at a live one hour recording for Rupavahini. Independent Square depicted why they stand as the fore-fathers of their respective genre. Gospel Rock, princes Ezra played a great rendition of originals and their version of Bryan Adams' 'Summer of 69'. The band released their debut EP titled 'Nazerene' and was sold for 250 rupees and sold well that night. The band that took to the stage to conclude an evening of soaring entertainment was The Fallen. The Fallen displayed a change of sound and style. The band is now clearly a Nu Metal band and this was evident with covers 'Chopsuey' and the more complex 'Toxicity' by System of a Down along with a new original 'Skitzo!' The six bands that played satisfied the crowds, earning their respect and showing that the spirit and unity of rock can't be hindred by a bit of foul weather.
