IUTUF still flex their muscles Non- academic staffers of all universities have decided to continue with their strike action until their all demands were met by the University Grants Commission (UGC), Chairman of the Inter University Trade Unions Federation (IUTUF) Lionel Malwattage told the " Sunday Observer". Members of the IUTUF who were participating at a special meeting held at the Kelaniya University yesterday decided to continue their struggle until their demands were met by the authorities. Meanwhile the Minister of Tertiary Education Kabeer Hashim made a request last Friday, to all the non-academic staffers to report for work tomorrow (Monday 25), since the Ministry along with the UGC have given approval to issue a circular concerning the 19 demands put up by the IUTUF " Although we have participated at several meetings with the Minister and the Chairman of the UGC, they do not seemed to be concerned about our major demands including salary increment for three years" Malwattage said, explaining that the collective agreement between the university authorities and the inter university trade unions, stipulated a salary increment every three years, and alleged that increment had not come into effect since 1995. - AG |
