UNP 'reorganisation campaign' at district level by Don Asoka Wijewardena The UNP Working Committee will launch a "reorganisation campaign" every three months in different districts of the country to increase its membership,to deal with complaints against the party and inform the general public on the importance of the peace initiative implemented by the government. The campaign is scheduled to be held from October 24 to 26. UNP Spokesman Gayantha Karunatilaka, MP, told the "Sunday Observer" that the party was able to enrol more members and reinvigorate party activities from the previous campaigns launched in Matara and Polonnaruwa recently. The third such district campaign will be decided by the working committee shortly. Mr.Karunatilaka said that the United National Party will hold its annual convention on December 13 at the Sugathadasa indoor stadium at 9.00 a.m. under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. He said that UNP was the only party which had been holding its annual convention without a break in accordance with its rules and regulations and its main objective was to assess the strength of the party and review its omissions and commissions. All UNP ministers, MPs, Municipal Council and Pradeshiya Sahba members and stalwarts would be notified in advance of the proposed agenda of the convention. |
