Achievements of women entrepreneurs to be recognised

The Women's Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC) will conduct the 'Woman Entrepreneur of the Year 2002' awards ceremony on October 20 at the Colombo Hilton.

Awards are presented once every two years to women entrepreneurs in the categories Large, Small, Medium and Micro. Winners will receive Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies and medals. A special award will be given to the Outstanding Professional Woman in the Large category, WCIC sources said.

The WCIC, affiliated to the Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sri Lanka and Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, initiated the scheme to encourage more women to participate in entrepreneurial activities and to give due recognition to successful women for their achievements and perseverance in developing their business," the sources said.

"Women's contribution to Sri Lanka's economy is considerably high. Women including rural women are involved in all sectors of business. Their talents are now being tapped and opportunities given to them to prove their talent," they added. (WIRUMA)
