VAT defaulters : Banks to be held responsible

The Inland Revenue Department, taking a tough stance against Value Added Tax defaulters may hold banks and other financial institutions used by the defaulting business concerns responsible for the actions of their clients and order the release of funds from the accounts to pay the VAT dues.

UN speech : Govt. to look positively at LTTE proposal -PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the 58th UN General Assembly said that like in all negotiations of a peace process, there was a temporary impasse in the talks with the LTTE, but assured that the government would do everything in its power to keep the peace process moving forward to a successful conclusion.
