UN speech : Govt. to look positively at LTTE proposal -PM Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the 58th UN General Assembly said that like in all negotiations of a peace process, there was a temporary impasse in the talks with the LTTE, but assured that the government would do everything in its power to keep the peace process moving forward to a successful conclusion. Praising the role played by the International community in supporting the peace process, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said that after twenty years of conflict Sri Lankans were now enjoying the fruits of 20 months of peace. He also said that President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga's continuing declaration of commitment to a political solution was invaluable. Commenting on the role of the International Community in the peace process the Premier said,that the moral and material support which the front line sponsors - India, the EU, Japan, Canada and the US along with the multilateral institutions of the UN and the rest of the international community has given and continue to give, has guaranteed that efforts to consolidate and maintain the peace would strengthen and develop. He also pointed out that the economic growth was marching ahead from a
negative growth of 01 percent in 2001 to possibly 6 per cent this year. |
