President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has appointed a-five member committee to resume talks with the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna for a united alliance. The committee comprises SLFP General Secretary Maithreepala Sirisena, Parliament MPs Nimal Siripala de Silva, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Susil Premajayantha and Tudor Dayaratne.

PA spokesman Dr. Sarath Amunugama said the committee will begin talks with the JVP as soon as they reach Colombo after their march from Kandy to Colombo. "The JVP leadership has expressed its necessity for an alliance and this time the talks will be a success. The JVP has pledged to be flexible in the talks" said Dr. Amunugama.
